THE EXHIBITION “THE ORIGINS OF LEARNING AND SCHOLARSHIP”
Located in the Hau Duong Building within the Thai Hoc Area of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, the exhibition "The Origins of Learning and Scholarship" introduces the formation and development of Confucian education in Vietnam while honoring distinguished scholars and historical figures who laid the foundation for the nation's tradition of learning and respect for talent. Featuring more than 300 documents, images, and artifacts, the exhibition offers visitors both an overview and an in-depth understanding of educational philosophy and scholarly traditions in Vietnam during the feudal period.
The exhibition space is arranged chronologically and consists of four main thematic sections, recreating the lives, achievements, and contributions of emperors and eminent figures who played significant roles in the development of Vietnamese education. Among them are Emperor Ly Thanh Tong, Emperor Ly Nhan Tong, Emperor Le Thanh Tong, and the renowned teacher Chu Van An, together with other notable historical figures such as Royal Consort Y Lan and the distinguished scholar Le Van Thinh.
Through these historical narratives, visitors gain deeper insight into the spirit of honoring talent, valuing education, and the aspiration to build a prosperous nation through knowledge and learning.
The exhibition materials and artifacts are presented through a variety of forms, combining historical documentation, reconstructed models, and experiential spaces. Traditional materials such as bamboo and wood are used throughout the exhibition, creating an atmosphere that is both simple and culturally profound. In addition, the exhibition's color scheme draws inspiration from the royal colors of Vietnamese feudal dynasties, evoking the solemn and ancient atmosphere of traditional places of learning.
"The Origins of Learning and Scholarship" is not only a historical exhibition space but also a bridge connecting today's public with the enduring scholarly traditions of previous generations. Through stories of enlightened rulers, esteemed teachers, and talented scholars, the exhibition inspires pride in Vietnam's long-standing civilization while encouraging the spirit of study and self-cultivation for present and future generations.
