THE OCTAGONAL PAVILION

Located in the Giam Garden area to the west of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam, the Octagonal Pavilion is an elegant architectural structure that harmoniously blends with the surrounding landscape of trees, water features, and the ecological setting of the heritage site. Constructed around 2000, the pavilion was created to provide a space for rest, sightseeing, and the organisation of cultural and educational activities within the monument complex.

The structure features an octagonal ground plan and a multi-tiered roof with eight gracefully curved roof corners characteristic of traditional Vietnamese architecture. The roof is covered with red tiles, while the wooden framework and slender columns create an appearance that is both ancient and closely connected to nature. Its open-sided design allows natural light and fresh air to circulate freely, creating a relaxing, airy atmosphere for visitors.

Although modest in scale, the pavilion serves as a gentle landscape highlight within Giam Garden, a tranquil green space of Van Mieu - Quoc Tu Giam. Today, it is also a venue for experiential activities and cultural exchanges, and a favourite resting spot for many visitors exploring the heritage site.
